The day the Grand Canyon made me cry (and my SUV tried to kill me!)

Saturday. I’m almost sure it was a Saturday as we weren’t working. We had the whole day for us, the only problem was what to do or where to go.

We prepared some sandwiches, two bottles of water, some fruit and jumped onto the SUV. Although it was old, it was new for us and we wanted or better needed to try it.

We drove north, we had heard there were lovely places in that direction. It was early in the morning but the sun was already shining with all its strength, as usual in the Valley. It was winter though so temperatures were nice, average ones like summer in the north-east of UK. The road was quiet and long and flat, as a never-ending one.

The view on both sides of the road was turning little by little higher and in different tones of red. Still not knowing our destination in the north, we took a smaller road and followed the signs. We found a carpark and walked a little bit to see the view.

WOW, what else could I say? WOOOW, how to describe it? WOOOOW, no way, I was speechless…

Travel to the Grand Canyon and witness stunning layered rock formations, steep cliffs, and deep valleys—all perfect to explore from the comfort of your SUV under a clear blue sky.

I had always felt loved by my Creator, I had always felt thankful for having the ability to hear, to feel, to speak, to see … I had thought I was an important part of His creation, otherwise, why spend some precious time (no idea how long, to be honest, but I am definitely sure His time is more precious than mine!) just to create ME??

All of a sudden, I was crying like a baby and could not stop. The view in front of me deserved each of my and everyone else’s tears. I was standing in front of the Grand Canyon.

Layered rock formations and steep cliffs of the Grand Canyon under a clear blue sky invite SUV travel, showcasing geological features and rugged terrain perfect for adventure seekers.

I could not continue standing, I needed to sit down so I could understand the grandiosity in front of me. So many different colours, so many ups and downs, the Colorado River very far away, giving the fresh touch to the dry view of the rocks. A little green represented by a tree here or there, like ready to offer a place for the birds to rest while flying across that immense Canyon.

I had the answer to my question. No words were spoken, but the message was loud and clear: I mattered because I am the beholder of this—and many other—of His creations.

We are all the beholders of great and tiny things on Earth. We all have the ability to stop and see the beauty in everything we see, hear, touch, smell. We can each enjoy it our own way. That’s why the Creator loves us, each of us is important so we can enjoy the little things and the grand things He’s made for us.

Steep rock cliffs with layers of red and tan stone, sparse vegetation, and deep shadows line the Grand Canyon wall under clear daylight—a perfect travel destination to explore by SUV.

Once we were ready to drive back home, we jumped again on the new and old SUV just to freak out when we saw the light engine was on in RED!!!

We were out of breath, thinking, thinking! What could it be? How to solve it? Would we be able to get home? Why didn’t we have any phone signal when we most needed it?

We decided to start driving back home and, fingers crossed (and anything we could cross!!) we would be able to get safely to our house. We didn’t say a word while driving, although we never mentioned not to talk! When we were getting to the suburbs of Phoenix, we saw the light went off to never be on again!!

How could I not spend some of my precious time writing this story down after so many different feelings??

I simply had to!
